The Office of External Affairs at Baylor University, Waco-McLennan County Public Health District, and Waco Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority, Inc., are teaming up to sponsor the 2018 Healthy Soul Food Cooking Demonstration and Health Fair. The event takes place Saturday, April 7, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Waco Multipurpose center, 1020 Elm Avenue in the Historic African-American community of Waco, Texas.
The event will feature nationally known Chef Sean M. Perrodin. His ability to adapt global ethnic cuisine with a Creole flair has proven to be unique and cutting edge. A diversity of organizations will be on hand to promote healthy living in a fun and energetic way! African Americans are the highest ethnic group at risk for health-related issues like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, etc., the health fair and healthy soul food cooking demonstration is to raise awareness, engage in healthy activity, learn new ways of cooking foods you love, meet friends, health providers and so much more! Activities included Hip-hop Zumba, Soul food taste-testing, jump rope, hula-hoop, and more. Learning elements included keeping the “Soul” in your food, assessment on choosing healthier options, heart-healthy assessment, and lectures from local physicians.
