APHA's 1 Billion Steps Challenge — #1BillionSteps

Together, we walked more than 2 billion steps!

We're thrilled at the success of the 1 Billion Steps Challenge and hope you'll join the challenge next year. We collectively walked more than 2 billion steps from Jan. 1 – April 8. People had fun with the challenge, and we were amazed by everyone’s activity levels. Congratulations to God's Stepping Warriors in Faith!, the team with the highest daily average of steps during the 2018 Steps Challenge and Fitbit France (les fits barjots) who walked the most steps during the three month challenge. Lastly, congratulations to all of the Steps Challenge participants. Keep up your activity.

APHA’s 1 Billion Steps Challenge makes it easy and fun to promote good health and physical activity in your community. We have tools to help you organize a walking challenge in your neighborhood, workplace or congregation, or you can use our sample marketing materials to invite your whole community to join! No matter how big or small, we make it easy for you to get people moving. To help you successfully get moving, we've partnered with Stridekick to give Challenge participants free access to their fitness-tracking platform.

The 1 Billion Steps Challenge supports broader health promotion efforts and the intersections between community design and active living, such as 2015’s "Step It Up: The Surgeon General's Call to Action to Promote Walking and Walkable Communities." We hope you’ll join us in advocating for initiatives that make it easy for all people to engage in physical activity in their communities.

The Challenge began Jan. 1, 2018, with a goal of reaching 1 billion collective steps by APHA's National Public Health Week celebration, which takes place the first week of April.
